I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody. -- Bill Cosby

Or at least should be thought a lot less.
Not everyone will probably appreciate the format in which this post is, or will be. Except for those of us who understand temptation.
What is there to be said about not wanting what we have, and wanting what we do not have? Do we actually understand the consequences of our actions as we make them? Can we feel the after effects of decisions before the decision even exists? Can you see the stress, the hair pulling, the fighting, the pain, the despair, the depression, the weight of a life changing outcome when the simple thought is just passing through your mind?
The answer to all of these questions, unless you created the world, is no. No, we don't know why we envy the untouchable things. No, we don't know why we are so unhappy with what we have. (Although, those two questions can be easily answered with, because the human being is never fulfilled without God, but we'll talk about that later). And of course... we cannot see what is to come, no one knows exactly what every decision they make will lead to.
So does that leave thinking of things, and making decisions up to trial and error? God help us all if it did.
People tend to lean towards this, I know I do. Trial and error? "Heck yeah, let's give it a shot.", seems to be my mindset most of the time. But as the strut turns into a sprint, the walk turns into a free-fall, and I'm trying to find a place to put my feet as twists and turns seem to start getting thrown faster and faster, with my mind spinning out of control, Heck-yeah, starts to turn into Ah-Crap.
Anyone feel like they're having an Ah-Crap moment? You are not alone.
Don't feel bad, pulling yourself out of that hole might be easier than you think. However, it depends on your intentions, goals, values, and just who you are trying to get to see you outside of that hole.
Intentions. Ask yourself why you want out of this hole. Is it for the right reasons?
Goals. So, they're the right reasons. What are you gonna do with them?
Values. Seem repetitive? Good. Make sure these are straight and honest.
Who are you trying to impress? Here's the climax, this determines your happiness. You're not going to get out of this hole by trying to impress the one who sees you in this hole. No, this is about you. Chances are, you may have even been in this hole before. Therefore, this seems to be a problem with you. Terrible news right? I know, but let's face it. It's the truth.
You know what's impressive to everyone in the world? A person who can realize things before they happen, who can prevent themselves from making a decision before taking it. But we're past that now aren't we? So what your intention now should be to have the goal of increasing your values of who you are and what you want in life, in return not only impressing everyone around you, but yet, impressing yourself.
Strive to be better, to live better, to impress not things of this world, but lead yourself into a mindset that is one after God's own heart.
