A Change in Color

November 11, 2011

Have I been tired of starring at the same color over and over on my website? Yeah, I have.

I wanted to have a website to blog on and write my thoughts but I didn't want to create a whole new site to do so.. therefore, I decided to do an overhaul on the site you're viewing right now.

BUT it was so tacky and lame in my opinion, from this the thought of adding some color came to be.

What was going to be the best way to accomplish this? JavaScript! (jQuery!!!)

So away I studied at jQuery, this is when I discovered .animate(), .css(), and .fadeIn()! Not as simple as it sounds though, there is about a good 150 Lines of code supporting and building out this function to change the background and menu background on a simple mouseover.

After finally getting it right I started to notice, "Hey, when someone comes here and picks a color they like and then proceed to browser the website, the color resorts to the default!", Oh no! This is terrible!

Back to my friend I went.

Upon asking Google, "Dude, how can I let people keep their color selection??", he replied, "Man.. you just need to store some cookies to their browser using jQuery and the $cookie() plugin.". "Ohh, is that all?", I asked sarcastically. Little did I know, it wasn't too big of a learning curve and turned out awesome! (At least I think so).

Well, I hope you like it!

Please feel free to comment below and let me know if you hate it, love it, or have any suggestions for this grand ole site of mine, thank you!
